Syros is the capital and main harbour of Syros. It stands on a natural amphitheatre style site, with neo-classical buildings, old mansions and white houses in Cycladic style which cascade down to the harbour.
The city centre at Miaouli Square is ringed by cafes, and has a grandeur all its own. Ano Syros has kept its medieval character, its steep streets and countless steps give the town the charm of a bygone age.
