It is only recently that tourism has noticed the multitude of beautiful beaches - more than 75 - with their glistening silver sand and clear blue waters of this Cycladic island, its rocks and clear waters.
The colours and morphology of the geological phenomena... the coastlines, the gulfs, the cliffs, the gorges, the hills...
are unique and it would be difficult to tire of gazing at them.

kythnos kythnos kythnos
The island has two significant settlements, the village of Messaria or Kythnos (pop. 676 in 2001 census), known locally as Hora, and the village of Dryopis or Dryopida Dryopida (pop. 517), also known as Horio. Both villages are notable for their winding and often stepped streets, too narrow for vehicular traffic. The villages are very picturesque but in different architectural styles.
Hora has the more-typical flat roofs of the Cyclades, while Driopida's rooftops are slanted and tiled and also notable for its large Greek Orthodox Church.
kythnos kythnos kythnos
